Multi-purpose facilities from Isokylä School?
Isokylä is located about 8 km from the center of Kemijärvi. The area has about 450 residents. Previously, Isokylä’s center was the village school built in 1955 and renovated in 1995. The school was closed in the spring of 2021. After the school’s closure, the clubs that had been actively operating at the school and the courses of the adult education center also ended. This quieted what had previously been a lively yard.
The villagers have proposed converting the well-maintained school for use as, for example, a village hall or a multifunctional building. Warm spaces can serve associations, artisans, artists, and small businesses. During the project period, we will look into identifying committed actors interested in setting up in the facilities, the needs of local residents regarding premises and services, for instance, for recreational activities, as well as a model for the development and maintenance of the spaces. As a result of the project, a local service and facility needs survey for the residents of Isokylä will be created, which will be utilized in the area’s development. Additionally, it will be determined whether there are enough committed actors for the building to be used as a multifunctional space, and what organizational model could be used to maintain the building.

Sledders’ Kemijärvi project
Snowmobiling is an important and popular hobby for locals. The planned development of snowmobiling has been discussed for a long time, and now the Kemijärvi Leisure Snowmobilers have highlighted the need. The project’s goal is to promote safety in snowmobiling and to enhance local recreational opportunities. As a result of the project, a comprehensive development plan for snowmobiling will be created.
The development plan includes a section 1 related to the safety of the routes, where hazard points are listed, as well as proposals for their repair/change needs. Section 2 examines the need for spur routes to reach services accessible by snowmobiles and suggestions for their locations. Section 3 reviews the data on the most used snowmobile route applications and their repair proposals and additions, and section 4 investigates the charging locations for electric snowmobiles, as well as proposals for areas where they are essential to enable electric snowmobiling.
The target group of the project consists especially of young people from Kemijärvi who are interested in snowmobiling, as well as indirectly travelers who engage in snowmobiling.
