Ongoing development projects

The branding project of Kemijärvi fish

Commercial fishing in Kemijärvi has made significant strides forward in recent years. In particular, the pike population in the lake is very good, and the perch population has also strengthened in recent years. Other species that can be utilized include perch, burbot, vendace, roach, and bream.

There are currently 5 licensed commercial fishermen in Kemijärvi, all of whom fish year-round. Among commercial fishermen, there are hopes to establish a brand for Kemijärvi fish and to promote it better to consumers and other fish buyers. The project aims to create a brand for Kemijärvi fish, develop new end products, conduct shelf life tests in accordance with food legislation, product testing, and produce videos.

The project serves as a logical continuation of the long-term development work for commercial fishing in Kemijärvi and the recruitment project for new fishermen carried out during the last programming period.

On a electric snowmobile to new trails in Kemijärvi

The goal of the project is to promote safe snowmobiling for the residents of the outlying villages of Kemijärvi and to create business opportunities for the villages in the area, as well as to enhance the possibilities for electric snowmobiling through new circular routes. The project will improve the accessibility of the outlying villages, the use of digital map and information applications, and the development of existing and new services by planning new connecting routes based on local residents’ needs. The project aims to develop the snowmobile trails of Kemijärvi to enable electric snowmobiling, improve the safety of the trails and the snowmobile handling skills of young people, and direct snowmobiling to authorized trails. The actions of the project will implement the results of the survey conducted by the Kemijärvi Snowmobilers project.

The target group of the project consists particularly of individuals engaged in snowmobiling in the Kemijärvi area, villages located along new routes, villagers, service providers, service providers offering electric snowmobiling, young people who engage in snowmobiling, and electric snowmobiling tourists. The new routes will also benefit snowmobiling tourism in other municipalities of Eastern Lapland.
